It is a cocktail of many causes – some can be controlled while others cannot be tamed.
To sweat is something very normal. It is a mechanism by which the body controls its temperature and keeps it cool. Normally the glands do not produce extra sweat except during the time of puberty. At this stage hormonal changes causes imbalances. The sweat glands start functioning with extra zest but in the majority of cases the conditions corrects itself as the body moves on towards maturity.
Another common reason for sweating too much is hot and humid weather. People engaged in manual labour tend to sweat more for obvious reasons. There is a vital difference however between normal excess sweating and profuse sweating that happens without a natural reason.
Sweat that results from climatic conditions or because of extra activity can be managed by observing proper hygiene. But sweating too much caused by unknown factors requires medical attention. Medical science says that sweating takes place during the time of menopause for women falling within a certain age bracket. sweating too much may be a symptom of problems related to the liver or kidney. Obesity, thyroid troubles or diabetes also leads to extra sweating. These medical causes have to be analyzed prior to following remedial measures.
It may surprise many to know that diet may be one of the prime causes of sweating too much. Food that is hot and laced with spices causes excessive sweating in many individuals. If the person is allergic to certain types of food it can lead to extra sweating. Thus one should keep a record of food taken to find out which is not suitable. Excessive intake of alcohol leads to problems related to digestion and this can cause profuse sweating.
Stress is another important cause for sweat glands to function more than usual. When one is tensed about an interview or meeting certain people it is quite common to see that person break out with heavy sweating. Tension can be relieved by walking, swimming or inhaling deeply to get rid of the tensed feeling.
Wearing of synthetic or fitting clothes lead to sweating too much as the air flow is restricted. Cotton being a natural fibre is the best especially for those who live in hot humid countries. Cotton allows the body to breathe.
Profuse sweating may be genetic and hereditary. By discussing it with other family members the reason might be zeroed in upon. This helps in finding a pinpointed solution.
