How many times have we felt that annoying redness creeping over our face in a social gathering for no rhyme or reason and have ended up defending that offending blush feebly? For quite a few of us, blushing easily and at the slightest provocation is not a compliment but an annoyance which has somehow to be dealt with.

Being an ‘open book’ by blushing furiously in social situations is no longer considered ‘cute’ or ‘innocent’ and even if it is, it may not be the compliment which you are looking for. It may also give out the signal that you are excessively timid or shy or worse, are hiding something. So, a facial blushing treatment that actually works is highly sought-after by those who wish to rid themselves of this predicament.
Drinking lots of water has been found to be a beneficial facial blushing treatment
. Many people blush because the face gets overheated and the blood vessels in the face get dilated. Having lots of water will keep the body hydrated and cool and thus prevent your body from getting over heated resulting in unwarranted blushing.
Dehydration also takes place due to excessive consumption of caffeine and smoking. This will result in making the face go red easily. Stopping smoking or drinking caffeine-heavy beverages will improve the hydration process and you will find yourself blushing less and less.
Hypnotherapy has also been found to be quite effective as a facial blushing treatment. Since this process involves hypnosis which is learning how to gain control over your mind and thus over your body, your mind will control how your body reacts in any given situation in a calm way. With increasing control over your body, the facial blushing will get reduced as you get more comfortable in situations where you would earlier blush easily. This will lead to greater self-confidence and self-esteem and you will automatically stop stressing yourself out in certain situations and hence ease the blushing.
Very severe cases of blushing called idiopathic cranio-facial eryrthema calls for more extreme measures like surgery, drug treatments or psychological treatments. Surgery means ETS which is done to control excessive sweating also but the results have not been very encouraging as the adverse side effects are pretty strong.
Drug treatments by using robinol, propanthelin, ditropan along with a series of anticholinergic drugs have been quite successful in controlling facial blushing. Sometimes, anxiety medications, clonidine, beta-blockers also work effectively as facial blushing treatment and conventional usage of tried and tested rugs should be given preference over surgery at least in the beginning.
Psychological treatments options are considered when the cause of facial blushing is due to social phobia which leads to involuntary blushing. Cognitive behavior therapy, fear confrontation, breathing techniques is some of the types of psychological treatments which have been effective for controlling facial blushing. Although no permanent facial blushing treatment has yet been discovered but by adopting certain methods or going for holistic treatments may help you conquer your blushing to a reasonable extent.
