What you need to realize ?

Before we address the solutions and reasons to why you might be suffering from night sweats, I thought of writing some points down which I think is important to share which I have learned. This article is written for people who suffer from night sweats but can and should be refereed by people who suffer from morning flashes or even day flashes. As the reasons and ways to control them are the same.

1)  One Million Affected:

Sweating in the night is a very common occurrence. People often complain about this. There are many reasons why you would sweat in the night from a serious thing like cancer to the room just being too hot. Doctors thus prefer to use the word “hot Flashes” and not “night sweats” when referring to sweating in the night when the symptom is due to a disorder or a disease. In a survey of 451 women going through menopause.  54% reported that they have suffered from night sweats but only 10% reported it to be bothersome. In total one million Americans ( Men and Women ) suffer from night sweats.

2)The day time stood Still:

After a small pool of interview I came to a conclusion that night sweats start at a very specific time. Its not the same for everyone but everyone seems to know the exact time when they can’t get sleep and notice the time is always the same. I did find that 3 am seems to be very popular but it can vary between people. This is only my observation and is not based on any statistic. I thought of sharing it with the readers so that they can see it for themselves.

Night Sweats are also known has Hot Flashes

3) Data vs Information:

There are many reasons why you might be suffering from night sweats and there are also many ways to help you out. Once you consult your doctor you are friends you are going to get a lot of data and methods to help you out which is great ! but really helpful information is not easy to get by specially if the doctor’s dosage was not helpful. Time and again people are not happy with the results and to find information which has tested on the data to serve you is hard to come by.

I suggest two actions which will help you get the information you need:

A) TALK – participate in forums ( we have one here too ) and share your story and you will find someone who has the same problem and this will help you learn what sometimes even the doctor does not know.

B) CONSTANT CHANGE – Your body is constantly changing so try to remember what were you doing before the night sweats started. Did you gain weight ? Did you have an operation ? Did you go Traveling ? Did you buy a new bed ? Have you reached the age of menopause ?

Reasons why you are having night sweats:

Night sweating or hot flashes is a well known symptom for the below disorders, diseases.

  • Menopause
  • Cancer
  • Virus
  • Crohn
  • Allergies
  • Infection
  • Side Effects To Medication
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Hormone Disorders

Any form of bacterial infection that affects your body can make you sweat uncontrollably during the nights. Medications are also a major cause of night sweats in many people. Several anti depressant pills can increase your sweat content drastically. If you are under the influence of insulin, your blood can develop a low glucose level which can increase your amount of sweat, prominent during the night. Such sweating can drench pillows, covers and bedclothes completely, in a very short time.

Menopause

Menopause is one of the main reasons for night sweats

Most women go through the excessive sweating at night because of the “hot flushes” in their body. This is extremely common in menopausal women where the hot flush increases the amount of sweat. Some forms of cancer can also lead to abnormal sweating during night. Neurological or genetic conditions in a person can also increase the amount of sweat. An often overlooked factor for such sweats is hormonal disorder, with hyperthyroidism being a leading reason. Carcinoid syndrome and trauma or stroke affects the body adversely, increasing sweat in a person.

If you are suffering from excessive sweating while sleeping, you may wake up abruptly in the night. In all probability, your clothes and bed sheet would be completely drenched in sweat. The night sweats soaked sheets need to be changed on a daily basis. You might also experience a general pain in your body. Such moments are awkward and embarrassing for most people due to sleep sweating. You should identify if your problem is because of a hot room, too much bedclothes or some other factors. Once you identify and diagnose the problem, you can look at several treatment procedures for your condition.

Life style and Home Remedies to help you out:

The first thing you should do is get in touch with your doctor for a diagnoses as she is the one who is qualified to identify the reason and a give prescription.

I would also suggest a lifestyle change and the use of some home remedies to help you out. For home remedies click here.
